Guidance
This 1st level resource will support you and your learners to positively explore identity, diversity, fairness, belonging and to value and celebrate diversity. The resource has been developed through consultation with educators and has been piloted across a diverse range of schools and first level contexts.
The resource draws upon some methodologies commonly used in a Storyline approach, but does not require prior knowledge or training in the Storyline methodology. The resource is organised into five episodes with a Stimulus, Suggested Activities and in episode 3, 4 and 5 Real World Learning, which takes the learning into a real life context. There is also a section on preparation as some episodes require you to gather resources.
The resource links to Education Scotland’s ARC principles and Oxfam’s Global Citizenship curriculum. This has the potential to be interdisciplinary, although primarily supports the Health and Wellbeing curriculum.
The planner is very flexible and versatile, leaving lots of scope for you to tailor it to your own learner’s needs. For example, one of the pilot teachers used letters for the character to communicate to the class, rather than a puppet and another teacher had a St Andrew’s Day celebration, rather than a birthday.
